Anointed By a Woman in Bethany
Matt..26:6-13
February 28, 2010
The Feast of the Passover, which is the day Christ shall be betrayed and crucified, is only two days away, and although His enemies did not want to kill Him on the Feast of Passover Day v3-5, this was God’s chosen time for Christ to be crucified. Christ Jesus is the reality of the Passover lamb that God commanded Israel to kill, and paint the blood of that lamb upon the doorpost of their homes, to protect the 1st born in that home, when the angel of death flew over Egypt that night, and this was Israel’s deliverance out of Egypt in which they are to celebrate thru out generations in memory of God delivering them out of Egypt Exo.12:3-14. Christ Jesus is the True Lamb of God who would take away, the sin of the world John 1:29. Now Caiaphas served as Priest longer than any other Priest, which is an indication that he had a close relationship w/the Romans. Now this plot to kill Jesus was deeper than any plot they ever had, for all the grand religious leaders v3 were in on it. They were out to get Him and would settle for nothing less than His Blood. This is the one time, that God and Satan wanted the same thing, and that is the Blood of Christ Jesus, but God wanted the Blood of Christ for Salvation of mankind, and Satan had no idea, that he was playing right into God’s Divine Plan, which was set before God ever created the world Rev.13:8, if they had known, they never would have crucified our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 1st Cor 2:6-8.
Matthew 26:6-7
V6 Simon the leper, who was healed by Christ, still carries the name Simon the leper, who is an example of how some of our acquaintances never forget about our sins of the past, even thou Christ Jesus has forgiven us. The women in v7 is said to be Mary the sister of Martha and Lazarus John 12:1-3. This ointment was very precious and expensive, and expressed the greatest reverence for Christ, as she poured it on His head. This is also an act of faith, to show that she believed in Jesus, as the Christ, The Messiah, as God’s anointed, who God has set as king, and so she anointed Him and made Him her king. If we truly love Christ and reverence Him, and have true faith in Christ, nothing we have is to good for Him or good enough for Him.
Matthew 26:9-9
V8-9 John 12:4-6 says Judas was the spokesman who complained and for hypocritical reasons, and it seems the other undiscerning disciples, were quick to agree with him. However let us understand that anything we bestow upon Christ can never be a waste. The time talent treasure, energy, efforts and ability, that we give unto Christ shall always be graciously received by Christ, rewarded by Christ 1st Cor. 3:11-15 and all the good deeds we do unto Christ for His Glory, shall follow us, even after death thru out all of eternity Rev.14:13. Also Consider Eccl.11:1 . V9 Notice how Judas tried to cover up his ungodly motive with religious works of charity.
Matthew 26:10-13
V10-11 Jesus was certainly not speaking against ministering unto the poor, but simply saying that there is a higher priority than any other earthly ministry and that is, worship is to be given unto Christ, He was also affirming His deity and highlighting the special sacrifice Mary made for Him. And then He reminds them v11. Consider Deut 15:7-11. There will always be opportunities to do good, but Christ constant bodily presence in this world would soon come to an end at the crucifixion and then again after the resurrection, 40days later He would ascend into the heavens John 16:7-Acts 1:11. V12 Mary did not know her act of pure worship and love to Christ signified His approaching death, it was the embalming of His body before death that He would have received after death, which the disciples would not have complained about, therefore it was not a waste, for Christ received His before death. V13 Is an act of her faith and love for Christ, and the memorial of this woman would be preserved by mentioning her faith and religion in the preaching of the gospel Consider John 12:26.
In Jesus Name Amen
